More Session Updates

From Tuesday June 15

The following summary of session is from Tuesday night (15 June). Though not official, these notes indicate that your elders and your pastor are working together for the growth, health, and faithful witness of our community.

· Elder Ann St John, Co-Moderator of Team Worship, will be coordinating an effort through the church office  aimed at getting elders and deacons to be more “visible” in greeting members and visitors on Sunday.

· The new moderator of Team Stewardship has an update for us. Through May 2010, Elder Linda Arndt reports we have received gifts totaling $98,000.00. When non-budgeted expenses are subtracted, we have spent about $108,000.00. This puts us about $10,000.00 behind — not too bad for our ‘down’ economy and many other factors being considered.

· Linda would like to thank all church members and friends who have stayed faithful in their giving and continue to support our unified budget with their tithes.

· Session voted to “reconfigure” Team Finance. This was done upon the written recommendation of the consultants working with session. Team Finance is now composed solely of three persons: Elders, Cindy McLean and Chris Calwell, and the church’s Financial Secretary (Bill Watt). They will report to session each month. Only ruling elders may sign checks. And, only the four corporate officers may move monies.

· Catching up, Elder Cindy Mclean presented financial statements for February, March, April, and May. These were approved by session.

· Clerk of Session, Elder Bob Graham, caught us up on session minutes. Under his guidance, session approved minutes from seven session meetings: January (2), February (2), March (1), and May (2).

· Session approved Study Leave plans for Rev. Mangrum through the end of 2010. Pastor Bill will publicize these dates and classes in the Sunday bulletin.

· Due to Triennium, session will meet 13 July. TNT for July is cancelled. Have a night off with our thanks!

More Session Updates

From Monday June 28

Session gives thanks for and celebrates the generosity of Jack Dignum. Jan Scott met with session as a special guest to present a gift to the church from her father, the late Jack Dignum.

"It was our father, Jack L. Dignum's wish to give a gift of $10,000 to First Presbyterian Church of Durango."

$3,000.00 to be placed in the Triennium line item for participants in 2013. $5,000.00 will be used in the selection of music under the direction of Tom Kyser in consultation with Gary and Jan. This money will also be used for the commissionng of a piece of choral music honoring Karen Wylie, organist at FPC for many years.

The remaining funds, $2,000.00 will be included in the principle of the Retta M. Dignum Youth Ministry Fund previously established by their family.

We also received a report on Triennium from Courtney Cannon and Marie Davidson. We are excited to send five youth and chaperones Lisa Schwinghammer and Pastor Bill! They will head out July 20th. Please pray for this group as they join in community with $5,000+ Presbyterian youth from across the country!

Session continues to discern the report from the Goehner group.
