Potluck Brunch Saturday, August 23, 8:00-9:30 AM Can you believe it’s nearly time to head back to school? Presbyterian Women are ready to get back in the swing of things with our first monthly get-together of the season. We want to be part of your routine and hope you’ll plan to join PW the fourth Saturday of each month. Please mark your calendar! All women are invited to join us on Saturday, August 23 from 8:00 until 9:30 am for a potluck brunch. There will an ice-breaker, and a devotional/bible study for which no preparation is required. Future meetings will have programs of interest, as well, so plan to join us every month. Bring a dish to share and enjoy fellowship with other women. Childcare is available. If you need a ride to and from the church call Cathy Jones at 247-4648. _______________________________________________ “The Story of Black Shawl” Make plans now to attend the Fall Gathering of Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery. The date is Saturday, October 4 and the place is Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church, Cortez. The program will be “The Story of Black Shawl.” "Woman With Black Shawl" is taken from Sharon French's long running pageant, "Anasazi, The Ancient Ones." This is an oral reminiscence about the long walk (1864) where 8,000 Navajo were gathered up, taken to Fort Sumner, confined and eventually set free. It is a pocket of American history, whose legacy is open up by Sharon Hatch French, for the eternal child in all of us to remember. More specifically, it is a narrative about a young woman known as Sarah Mara-Boot, who, abandoned by her birth mother, expelled by her adoptive parents, but nurtured and guided by her Grandmother, emerges as the voice of the Other, in a world dominated by the white colonial mind. Finally, we are (perhaps) moved by how the prayers of the playwright's ancestors have been heard and, as a result, they continue to rest in the four holy mountains of the southwest.
