Welcome to First Presbyterian’s Worship Service!
What happens in worship?
Our number one goal in worship is to connect with God as a community of faith! This means our congregation feels like a warm friendly family of people desiring to draw near to God alongside each other. Thus, our worship services reflect this kind of warmth and familiarity. You can expect each and every week that some things will never change; we’ll pray together, sing together, and learn from God’s Word together. And some things will change here and there; the style of service varies from week to week to fit where we are in that particular season, to fit with God’s Word for that worship service, and to reflect our diverse congregation—we’re Durangans, so it’s hard for us to want to be tied down to labels like “traditional” or “contemporary.”
Who comes to worship?
Anybody and everybody are welcome to come to worship and that means you especially! We usually have around one hundred people joining us on Sundays ranging in age from one month to 100 years old. We have people from all different backgrounds, different faith journeys, and many different perspectives. We’ve found that when our center is Jesus our differences make us a stronger and better faith community.
What do people wear?
People at First Presbyterian Durango wear whatever they’re most comfortable wearing. You’ll see cowboy hats, three piece suits, jeans, t-shirts, chacos, high heels, and cycling shorts and shirts for the ride after church. Our only dress code is that you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing!
Do I need to bring anything with me?
The short answer is “no.” All you need to bring is yourself. We have bulletins that tell you what’s happening when in the worship service, we have kid bags for the little ones (see nursery and children’s ministry for more information), we have Bibles for you to use, and a great group of people who can guide and help you through our facility or anything else you might need. If you would like, you are welcome to bring your own Bible, pen, and anything else you feel you might want.
Are you ADA accessible?
Yes! The door located on 3rd Avenue between the Sanctuary and the Church Offices is the best entrance for those with physical disabilities. We are so blessed to already have in our company several people with both intellectual and physical disabilities. You and your loved one(s) will be warmly welcomed and find that there is a great community here at First Presbyterian for all of God’s people!
Children may leave together from the service following the Moment for Children. They are led by our Children’s Ministry Director and a great group of volunteers. Through interactive stories, high energy games, and fun crafts, children will explore many of the wonderful stories from the Bible! We're going to chew our way through chocolatey goodness in search of God's awesome creations! How do candy bars like snickers, reesies, and kit kats connect to Jesus? Join us on Sunday to find out! We hope you will join us!
Children’s church is held during the worship service. Volunteers are always needed.
Please contact Savannah Westenbarger if you can help.
