Emergency Warming Center in Durango
The Emergency Warming Center in Durango will provide a safe and warm inside location for people in need of shelter from November 2024 through February 2025. The Emergency Warming Center will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. when the forecasted temperature is 15° or lower and will welcome anyone needing shelter from the cold weather. The Warming Center will provide a light supper, warm drinks and breakfast.
The Emergency Warming Center Coordinator will be responsible to and work directly with the members of the Emergency Warming Center Council and specifically with the Executive Director of Community Compassion Outreach or her appointee.
General Responsibilities will include overall supervision of the Emergency Warming Center when it is open and will be present onsite when it is open to (6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.). The Emergency Warming Center Coordinator will oversee receiving supplies and food from donor organizations and will coordinate assigning shifts to 2 onsite volunteers. A comprehensive position description will be provided candidates who interview for the position.
This will be a seasonal contract with a monthly stipend as well as an hourly rate while onsite at the Emergency Community Warming Center.
The following experience will be valued in selecting the Emergency Warming Center Coordinator:
- Experience with low-income individuals/families experiencing homelessness or housing challenges
- Experience in supervisory roles and working with volunteers
- Training and experience in communication, conflict management and trauma informed care
